What Are Aid and Attendance Benefits?
Aid and Attendance is a benefit paid by the VA to Veterans or surviving spouses in addition to a Veteran’s basic pension. Without being initially eligible for a basic VA pension, you’re unable to receive Aid and Attendance benefits. Medical expenses counted in qualifying for assistance include:
In-home care services
Assisted living facilities
Nursing home accommodations
It’s also important to note that Aid and Attendance benefits aren’t contingent on the disability resulting from your service (also referred to as a non-service-connected disability benefit).
How Do I Know If I Qualify?
If you require assistance with daily living activities, you might be eligible to receive Aid and Attendance Benefits. VSG’s job is to make the case to the VA on your behalf. If you need help with at least two of your Activities of Daily Living (ADL), you could be eligible. These ADLs include:
Bathing and hygiene
Toileting and incontinence
Note that these six activities don’t include things like housekeeping, cooking, and other household chores you may still struggle to complete. If you find that you’re unable to perform at least two of these ADL activities, VSG can jump-start your application process by scheduling a screening. With extensive experience to draw from, our staff knows the ins and outs of VA requirements. We will find specific behaviors and cases to emphasize, making sure you’re in the best position to receive the Aid and Attendance benefits you need.
